Cleaning the sludge from radiators.

If sludge and debris is not removed from heating systems, it can accumulate in radiators, pipework and heat exchangers, causing severe blockages.  This diminishes the transfer of heat and can result in pipe, radiator valve and heating control servo valve damage. In some cases this will eventually lead to the premature failure of the boiler.

Powerflushing is a popular method of cleaning and maintaining a central heating system. A powerflushing unit sends water at high velocity through the system to dislodge and remove debris, limescale, and sludge build-up. A thorough powerflush will improve heat distribution throughout the property, subsequently lowering household energy bills and increasing system reliability.

Gas Safety Appliance Checks

All gas appliances in your property need to be safety checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer annually and serviced according to manufacturer’s instructions. Any appliance left unchecked could leave you at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. It’s an extremely good idea to have your gas pipework inspected at the same time as having a gas safety check, every year – and it’s law if you’re a landlord.

Landlord gas safety responsibilities

Landlords are responsible for the safety of their tenants. Your legal duties apply to a wide range of accommodation occupied under a lease or licence, including (but not limited to):

  • Residential premises provided for rent by local authorities, housing associations, private sector landlords, co-operatives, hostels.
  • Rooms, let in bed-sit accommodation, private households, bed and breakfast accommodation and hotels.
  • Rented holiday accommodation such as chalets, cottages, flats and caravans.

Scott Brothers Heating Service contracts ensure you remain compliant to ensure gas appliances, fittings and chimneys/flues provided for tenants are safe. We can arrange our Gas Safe registered engineers to service your appliances in your property at a time which is convenient to yourself (tenancy change over) or at a convenient time for the tenant.

Aga & Range Cooker Installation

Our team of friendly, qualified plumbers and engineers work on a daily basis installing Oil, and Gas Aga Cookers, Stove and Range Cookers. We have been servicing, maintaining and installing these types of cookers across the North East for over 40 years.

Servicing your cooker at least once a year is critical to ensuring your gas cooker is working properly and is safe to use. All of our engineers Gas Safety Registered, so you can be sure that your cooker is being serviced and inspected by a true professional. Due to the knowledge and skills our engineers possess, they are able to deal with any servicing requirement and no job is unfeasible for our highly skilled professionals.

How long does is take to install a cooker?

An average installation of an Aga / Range Cooker will take between 6-8  hours from start to finish, this doesn’t include tank installation and laying oil and gas lines and flue work. In most cases if the site is prepped then our engineers will arrive in the morning and have your cooker up and running by the end of the day.

If you have purchased an Aga or Range cooker which you would like to install then call us on 0191 3730 159 or 01388 760 488 and we’ll talk you through the important things to consider. The positioning of the Aga and Range is crucial with Oil, Gas and Solid Fuel Aga Cookers, but less so with the Electric. It is also important to consider the position in the kitchen in terms of the aesthetics and practicality but also in terms of being able to flue the appliance.

How often should I service my Aga / Range Cooker?

As with most domestic appliances, AGA cookers require routine servicing and maintenance to ensure they continue to operate safely and efficiently.

  • Gas AGA heat-storage cookers usually require a service every 12 months.
  • Oil AGA cookers should be serviced every 6 months. 3-oven and diesel models may extend to 12 months. Solid fuel models require their internal flueways to be cleaned monthly, with a six-monthly sweeping of the connecting flue pipe. The main chimney should be swept annually.
